WHO WE ARE

Head start to Healthy lifestyles is a SNAP-Ed grant funded research study from the University of North Texas, in collaboration with Texas Woman’s University. The purpose of this study is to identify different factors of making healthy food choices with limited budget and developing physically active lifestyles among head start children and families.

Head start to Healthy lifestyles administers nutritional and physical activities across 10 centers and schools in the DFW metroplex. Strategies in the nutrition and physical activity program include changing physical activity policies, developing daily supervised physical activity sessions during targeted school times, gardening initiatives, enhancing professional development training to Head Start personnel encouraging family members’ nutrition and physical activity engagement, as well as social media/ social marketing

OUR GOAL

The aim of this study is to investigate the extent to which a nutrition and physical activity program impacts the children’s body max index, physical activity, sedentary behavior, and healthy food choices. In addition, information gained from the study is expected to provide beneficial information about how healthy food choices and physical activity influence health.

BENEFITS

We expect the project to benefit your child by enhancing their physical activity, healthy food choices, and health benefits of being physically active. In addition, information gained from the study is expected to provide beneficial information about how healthy food choices and physical activity influence health. This information may have implications for developing future school interventions to promote children's health.
